Picture this: You’ve been woken up by an intense, continuous beeping noise from your phone. With one eye open, you opened your phone and was greeted by a long list of notifications from your stan account. It’s happening. Your favorite Love team just announced that they are officially a couple. Of course, you’re over the moon. All of a sudden, all the adrenaline gushed like this might be the best day of your life and no one can ruin it. Like for real.
Amazing, right? In fact, this might have been a familiar scenario for the fans of Kathniel, Jadine, and Lizquen whose on-screen pairing successfully translated off-screen. Being a fan is undeniably an extraordinary experience in life. It becomes our source of happiness and excitement. With the massive cultural impact of Love teams in the Philippines, one can tell that local Love team fandoms are one of the luckiest fans as they are constantly fed with fan services, paired-up projects, and events.
If we see two individuals who are seemingly inseparable on-screen, it is inevitable to think that there might be some off-screen romance going on. The reel-turned-real relationship of Love teams like DongYan (Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera), (ShaGab) Sharon Cuneta and Gabby Concepcion, and JaDine (James Reid and Nadine Lustre) also added fuel to the fire of heightening our hopes that every single Love team will also end up like them.
But everything has boundaries. And although it is inevitable doesn’t mean it should be tolerated. Some fans have the tendency to become so passionately dedicated to their idols that they confuse reality and fiction, failing to realize that the on-screen lovers they are cheering for are still just actors who have been trained to amuse them and provide kilig. We should not pressure them to convert their on-screen passion into a genuine one. Similarly, we should respect their private relationships and life just as much as how we respect their Love team.
