The Overindulgence of Gift-Giving

Just like everything else, the act of gifting in the entertainment industry can bring about its own downfalls when too much of it is done.
There is a growing tendency for fans to feel themselves bound in a form of obligation to present their favorite artists with gifts again, and again, and again. The same cycle over and over and over.
And it is not simply the repeated action of gift giving which becomes burdensome on a variety of fans; it is the sheer excessiveness of the gifts. Some spiral into debts, others have taken loans, while others sell their valuables and take it upon themselves to collect money through unfair means for the sole purpose of buying immensely expensive gifts for their idols.
The burdening aspect of these many traditions go unseen because fans are under the delusion that their self-inflicted hardships are nothing compared to their idol’s happiness.
While this form of affection may bring happiness to the givers and perhaps, a little bit of it to the receivers, it is undoubtedly also an indulgence, and too much of it can be harmful, which takes away a medium of appreciation. Gifts are great and all, we all know that. But it is important to acknowledge the dire need to draw a line between the fans and their obsession to please their favorite artists and their own pleasures.
